For english speaking visitors:

There is a new site in this blog with a list of a part of my ancestors (“Liste Vorfahren). If you have the same ancestors please contact me (comment or email), english is no problem, that we can communicate.

A few years ago I was searching for a name for my own homepage / domain. I had a look on the site www.oldoerp.de and was surprised to find an artist named Andreas Oldörp*. I had no idea what special kind of installations he made (Klanginstallationen – sound installations). But I looked on his homepage and found answers. In this times he is also working in other european countries like Denmark. Before I got notice of him, he took part on an exhibition in Mecklenburg. So I missed the chance to see one of his installations. But I think I’m going to visit one of is exhibitions soon. I’m always interested in every kind of news about persons with the name Oldörp. And if I meet another Oldörp by chance I’m always very interested to find out what he’s doing, where he lives and so on, because the name Oldörp is rather rare. That’s me and my special “hobby” :-) (or rather one kind of neurosis? :-) )

If you want to see one of his installations you can see the dates on his homepage: http://oldoerp.de/oldoerp/projekte/2008/index_en.html

There you can find the english version of his page http://oldoerp.de/index_en.html

Oldoerps came from the villages in the so called Fürstentum Ratzeburg, especially from the villages around Schönberg. There is for example the small village Bechelsdorf. Also in the villages Lockwisch and Selmsdorf and the town Schönberg lived persons with the name. In the dialect, thats spoken in the northern part of Germany, Oldoerp means “Old village”.

The Bechelsdorfer Schulzenhaus – what does it mean?
Bechelsdorf is a small village near the German town Lübeck. In former times it was a part of the so called Fürstentum Ratzeburg – and of course it was not as small as today. Many of the villages had a man called “Dorfschulze” in former times. It is somebody like a mayor. And such a Dorfschulze lived in this house. So the name was developed: the house of the Dorfschulze of Bechelsdorf – the Bechelsdorfer Schulzenhaus.
The house was earlier a part of Bechelsdorf. In the 1960ies the town of Schönberg restored its museum and the house became a part of it. The people transported it stone by stone from Bechelsdorf to Schönberg and restored the house at its new place. Now you can find the house in its own area. The Oldoerp-Family had lived in the house since a few centuries. The house has been enlarged step by step over the long time. First papers that exist about the house are from the year of 1444, they are now over 550 years old.

Today the museum and the house depend on the financial support of the town Schönberg. A few months ago the house was closed, because there was not enough money. At this time the building ist in danger because of a special kind of woodworm. The worms are damaging the wooden beams that take the most part of the house.
If the Bechelsdorfer Schulzenhaus would maybe closed in a few times it would be a big loss for everyone – for the people of the region and for all the guests.

Visit the house! It is really recommendable! Here you can find a view in the past that you can’t find anywhere else. The admission is not expensive – so you can go with the whole family and visit the house. News from the Bechelsdorfer Schulzenhaus: You can get married in the house. http://www.mv-regierung.de/im/pages/hinweise/heirat.htm
